Walk the Day…Take in the Outdoors

The Lalbagh Glasshouse

The Lung Space of Lalbagh
Originally a fruits tree jungle this botanical garden now sprawls across 240 acres and every nature lover’s delight. The glorious Glass House, Bandstand that hosts many concerts, the Lalbagh Rock over 3 billion years old and so declared a national geological monument are all best taken in with a patient stroll.

Laughter clubs, yoga groups, the Jaivik Organic Stores, Nursery to nurture, bountiful events from Mango Mela to the bi-annual Flower show are all enjoyed along with the rare flora & scenic beauty.

Unhurried’s Lalbagh Walk and Bangalore Walks’ Green Heritage Walks are great guided walking tour options.

Cubbon Park
The lil’ cousin of Lalbagh but nonetheless charming. It was a resting place for traders as they traveled between old Bangalore and Cantonment. Spread over 1000 acres and park boasts exotic species, the Seshadri Iyer Memorial Library, Queen’s Park, band stand, bamboo pond and the Bal Bhavan which entertains kids & adults alike with its numerous rides.

Walk around Cubbon park and be awestruck by the imposing Vidhan Soudha (State Legislature) which towers over the Attara Kacheri (State High Court) painted Pompeian red in stark contrast.

Step Indoors… or Shop the Afternoon

The Bangalore Palace

Bangalore Palace
Modeled after the Windsor Castle is surrounded by its gardens and cannons. Fortified towers, Gothic windows and battlement-ed parapets make the palace a magnificent sight. Its open to the public except the wings where the Wadiyars maintain a private residence. Opt for the audio tour and get introduced to the rich heritage of the Mysore Empire. The Palace Grounds host cultural performances, exhibitions and also weddings so if in luck you could catch a Rock(ing) performance or a Santhe!

Brigade Road and Commercial Street are shopping streets which have been around for over hundred years where big stores and small shops all have wares so you could shop until you drop. Spend (pun intended) the afternoon strolling, window shopping and bargain hunting. If you’re a mall-rat, head towards MG Road which boasts big names between its two Metro stations including Central, Garuda Malls and 1 MG Road. Church Street is a book lover’s lane dotted with Blossom, GangaRams and Higginbotham’s.

Club the night…

A wine and dine experience is best at Olive Beach, the Glass House or Caperberry. Or if you’re looking to party or club hop – the Hard Rock Café for its rock-centric ambiance and best music gigs, Church Street Social for their innovative drinks, Arobor Brewing Company (ABC) with its industrial chic ambiance, The 13th Floor for its awesome city views, NoLimmits for its dance floor and the new kid in town BLUEFrog for its best music line up are the best bets.

So, that’s Midtown Magic of Bengaluru for a day or two. Experience , Enjoy & be Elated!
